After a year of recognitions and prizes at a lot of festivals,we got the chance to show our film at the Short Film Corner on Cannes. At first, it was overwhelming just the thought of going to France, but it was something that we needed to do. With a lot of help, from friends and family, our director Javier Colón got the chance to travel to Cannes.
Not only that, furthermore, it was with the biggest group of Puerto Rican directors that have ever been in this festival.
The first days, was a bit scary, because they are so many people, and you are just one of thousands of filmmakers trying to do the same thing: to sell or get something done with your short. It was hard trying to learn with who you needed to talk to or just simply know what do you need to do in a festival like these.
I’ve been in a lot of festivals, but nothing can compare to this one. Every day is an adventure, for just trying to get people to see your film, for attemp to get just one meeting with somebody. It’s something that definetly everyone that had a chance to be there, would say the same: “There’s nothing like it”.
Cannes, on itself, it is of course, expectacular, but I mean its just a nice beach. What make it different it’s the people, the feeling of being surrounded by the film industry and with people with badges.
After all, was a nice trip and with lots of memories, we went with a mission, and we return back with more than we expected.
But when I get back, I definetly have a couple of things that I need to do different, the most important: Don’t buy Coca Cola for 4 EUR.
Not good for my bank account.
Until next time…
